What’s Next After High School for Students in Special Education?
Resources Available at March 7 “Transition Fair” in Camarillo

 

Explore the safety net of supports for your student

Help students in special education (ages 15-22 years old) prepare for the quality adult life they envision. This fair is for students, parents, teachers, and care providers to learn about the transition-to-adult life process and meet local agency representatives. 

 

Attend this free event to meet with the representatives from more than thirty different adult service agencies in Ventura County. (No registration required.)

 

WHAT: 2019-2020 Ventura County Fall Transition Fair Open House to visit agency tables and the following breakout sessions with a focus on exploring the safety net of supports for your student:

 

  • 9:00am - 12:00pm: Open House to visit agency booths
  • 9:30am Breakout Session- My child is graduating with a diploma.  Now what? Local educators and agencies share the process for transition as they get close to graduation.  What does agency involvement look like? How do districts guide each student and family through transition planning? What is the process for college/vocational program visits and applications, referrals to outside agencies, FAFSA, resumes, transition portfolio and sharing information with agencies? 
    • 10:30am Breakout Session- My child is aging out (age 22). Now what? - Local educators and agencies share their process to support transition age youth for successful transition to adult life.  How will agency involvement be different than when in school? What about conservatorship? What is person-centered planning?
    • 9:30am and 10:30am Breakout Sessions- Transition Talk- The IEP Process * recommended for parents attending the fair for the first time
    • 9:30am and 10:30am Breakout Sessions- Student Transition Activities –  Local teachers and transition specialists will guide students in creating vision boards and researching careers.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: High School and Post-Secondary Students who will earn a diploma or who will/ have earned a certificate of completion, Parents/Guardians, Care-Providers, Teachers, and Professionals

 

WHEN: Saturday, March 7, 2020 • Agency Open House from 9:00am-12:00pm •  Breakout Sessions 9:30am and 10:30am.

 

WHERE: Ventura County Office of Education Conference and Educational Services Center • 5100 Adolfo Road, Camarillo, CA 93012

 

Meet representatives from the following agencies:

 

  • Department of Rehabilitation
  • Tri-Counties Regional Center
  • Colleges
  • Ventura County Behavioral Health
  • Public Health
  • Actors for Autism
  • CSUN Explorers

 

Presentation and information at the fair are available in English and Spanish. Interpretation in ASL and other languages is available but must be reserved 2 weeks in advance. Call 805-437-1560.
